The Best Safari Theme Nursery Finds for your Baby!

Don't forget to share!

If you’re expecting a baby or have recently had one and are in the process of designing their nursery, this post is for you!

I’m sure you are hoping to create an inviting, safe space, filled with items that are practical and your baby will grow to love!  This was my hope as well when my husband and I first started planning our daughter’s safari theme nursery.

Whether you’ve settled on a safari theme or are still considering, I’m sure you have been browsing all sorts of ideas and twists on this exciting popular look.  In this post I will share how we settled on our theme and began filling our daughter’s nursery with the perfect addition to fit this jungle or exotic animal look.

If you haven’t even considered a theme but are at the beginning stages of your nursery planning, be sure to check out my ultimate guide to designing your baby’s nursery!

Settling on a Safari Theme

Choosing our theme was such a hard decision for me, because there were so many cute options!  When we did finally decide on a gender neutral safari nursery theme, I became obsessed with hunting down the perfect additions to fill up her room.

There seemed to be so many options for how to fill a baby nursery that even though we had chosen a theme we still had no idea exactly how we wanted to pull off the look.   All we knew was that we were really excited to create an amazing space that we hoped our baby would love one day.

We wanted the space to be practical and functional, but also to have soft, playful elements. Initially, we had opted for a gender neutral nursery, but when we found out we were having a girl, we decided to add subtle pink additions to make the room a little more fun and girly.

What we ended up with was a beautiful safari hideaway filled with authentic pieces that fit the theme. It is easily adaptable if we have other children in the future, and can change with our daughter as she grows up.  I talk a bit more about our designing process here

How We Found our Unique Safari Theme Pieces

To find the right pieces for our safari theme nursery I did a lot of searching in store and online. I wanted unique individual pieces that when paired together would create the look we were going for. In the end, I managed to find some of the greatest bedding, decor, trinkets and toys to create our safari theme.

The items we purchased helped us to create a special space that looks unlike any other nursery I’ve ever seen. It truly screams safari without being overdone or cheesy, and we did it for a great price!

1. Giraffe Curtain Tie Backs

giraffe tie backs

These were one of my absolute favourite finds for our safari theme. They are cute giraffe tie backs that are used to hold back our curtains. We chose giraffes, but other animals were available, including cute monkeys and elephants.

A practical addition to any room that are attractive and functional.  These are a great way to add a little effortless softness to the room, and they sure are cute!  They feature pearl fasteners and an elastic piece that make them easy to loop around any style of curtain.

Check out what we used here:

2. Animal Print Wall Decals

Check it out here.

We loved creating this animal print focal wall with dark grey “Irregular Dot” decals that we purchased off of Etsy.

It was really easy to stick the individual vinyl decals on our wall to create the unique look we wanted. You can stick them close or far apart depending on the specific look you are going for.

They look so good that most people think they were hand painted. We have received so many compliments about our beautiful wall.

These decals come in a variety of colours and package sizes.

3. Hazel the Elephant

It has been my goal to fill our daughter’s room with cute, theme related stuffed animals.

When I found out we were having a girl, this was my first purchase! It is an adorable pink stuffed elephant. Her name is Hazel.

Hazel is one of the cutest additions to our nursery yet. She is soft, cuddly and our daughter loves her! Hazel stands out because of her cute feminine features and size, not too big or small, but just perfect for a newborn or infant to cuddle with.

4. Cheetah Print Bed Sheet

In line with our safari theme, we opted for animal print fitted crib sheets for our daughter’s nursery.  We actually purchased two styles, one pink and one grey, both were made by Lambs & Ivy.

Both are made from very nice fabric, and look great against her white crib. I love that they wash well and are made of durable organic cotton.   They definitely stand out and give us that safari look that we wanted!

5. Greenery Change Table Cover

Out of the few change table covers we purchased, this stand out, this tropical leaf greenery patterned cover is my absolute favourite.  It adds a bold burst of green to the room, without being overpowering.

It is made of 100% cotton muslin material, and measures 16 X 32 inches.  I love that it came with the cuts for the change table straps to fit right through it.

6. “Be Unique” Giraffe Pillow Cover

I searched high and low for the right pillow case cover to place on my baby girl’s recliner, and finally found this one that fit in well with our colour scheme and theme.  It fit a standard decorative pillow.

The “be unique” slogan sends a strong positive message, and encourages little ones to be themselves from early on.

7. Big Stuffed Giraffe

One of the first thing that attracted me to the safari theme was a picture that I saw with a big stuffed giraffe near the baby’s crib. I thought it was the cutest thing, with its super long neck and colourful spots. So of course I had to find one for my daughter’s room.

She stands on her own and looks great in any corner of the room. She measures 67cm.

The exact model we purchased is no longer available, but here is one that is similar:

8. Roller Elephant and Giraffe

When I found this pair of little roller animals online from Hobby Lobby, I had to purchase them. They were on sale which made them an even greater find!

I like that they are unique decorative pieces, but that my daughter will also be able to play with them when she gets a bit older.

9. “You’re My Definition of Perfect” Wall or Table Plaque

This animal themed wood frame fit in well with our colour scheme.  I liked that it could be hung on the wall or placed on a surface, which makes it adaptable as my daughter grows up. For now, we found the perfect spot for it on my daughter’s book shelf.

The caption definitely captures our sentiments.

10. Safari Animal Wall Prints

These type of prints are widely available, but what I love is that you can dress them up or down depending on how you feature them. We chose to give our animal prints their own wall in our baby girl’s nursery!

We placed them in 11 X 14 pink frames, and surrounded them with cute greenery decals.  They definitely add some excitement to our nursery!

Check them out here:

11. Greenery Decals

We struggled to find the right greenery elements to our safari theme nursery, until we came across these great ready-to-stick leaf decals. They come in all different designs, so we chose a couple of different ones and played around with them until we found the perfect spots for them in the nursery.  They add just the perfect touch to our safari theme.

These came with very clear instructions and were easy to install, simply peel and stick.

Check them out here:

12. Skip Hop Baby Soother, Moonlight and Melodies Elephant

We love this sound and light machine, and the fact that it is an elephant and totally fit with our safari theme was an added bonus.

It features both lullabies and nature sounds, including white noise.  It has a built in night light with an adjustable dimmer, and can project stars on the ceiling.  Anything that helps our baby sleep is definitely on my favourites list!

Speaking of baby sleep, be sure to check out two of my other posts on helping your little one sleep:

13. Elephant Mobile

When my daughter first came home, she did not sleep in her crib right away, instead she slept in her bassinest in our room.

Once she was a few months old, we began having her take naps in her crib in her room, before fully transitioning her for both day and night sleep around 10 months old.  Her favourite thing to do before she dosed off was to stare at her cute elephant and star mobile.

We assembled it ourselves, following the very simple instructions. It looks far better than I ever could have imagined. We opted for the grey elephant, but you can also get it in pink.
